Soon I seen bright unearthly blue search beams light up the northern sky blocking out the stars. These mark the belt of the mythological figure Orion the Hunter. My first light was M81 and M82 which instantly converted me to the deep sky for the rest of my life. Share via Email Ocean Vuong: disentangling traumatic memory and myth. It could happen today or a thousand years from today. Night Sky is K words or pages.

Must have spent a week indoors just looking at it when I should have been outside observing through it. Many times I have found a distant galaxy in the sky and may have been uncertain whether I had encountered it before or not, however because I numbered the pages and indexed my log books I was able to ascertain within min's if I had found that particular object before saving me valuable time. Martin McKenna. You will always remember what you were doing when it hurts the most. Each word is given space, as if there were a full stop after it, as if allowing for an echo.

If silhouettes of trees are blurry, either appreciate the role the wind is playing or try again on a calm night. Once you're ready for a telescope, we have more than a few words of advice! Night Sky is the first book in a YA series set in the same dark future as Suzanne Brockmann's Born to Darkness, the first installment in her Fighting Destiny paranormal romance series. Every time I got stuck this book had me right back on track with no confusion!

Night sky book

This comet was picked up within the only clear strip of sky at the horizon as the rest of the sky was covered with a dense fog. The bright stars and constellations of winter are high in the south mid-evening this month.

What charts, books, software and other references do I need? Important Try and update your latest observing session into your log book as soon as possible to maintain accuracy, plus the longer you leave it then the less chance there is of you doing it at all The showers are visible annually from mid-July through the peak, around August 12 and 13 every year.

I have been observing the night sky for over a decade now, however since I decided that I would start recording my observations in an astronomical log book, in hindsight this was one of the best decisions I ever made. I observed it from my bedroom window, back garden, a nearby football pitch, followed by a building site that allowed for a panoramic elevated view of the display.

It is our duty as self appointed watchmen and women of the sky. I also include the names of anyone I observe with, their scopes, and their own observing agenda, so I end up recording not just my own work but the work of others as well although this is not necessary of course.

Find out more about choosing and using binoculars here. I said in my log book that evening that the sky was similar to what one must get in Arizona!

Mercury joins Venus in the early evening with its best appearance this year so be sure to catch it. When I'm of elderly edge I will be able to look back on these books, and the future books still to be compiled, and feel a great sense of pride.

Betelgeuse is a red night sky book star and will eventually explode as it gets to the end of its life. Don't miss This site uses cookies to make sure visitors have the best experience possible. I wish you every success and don't forget to email me with your own thoughts.

Thrills Of Starry Nights Past I have experienced so many thrills and disappointments in astronomy over the years that I could not do them justice here but if it were not for my record keeping then I would have lost much of my most cherished memories under hundreds of nights spanning more than a decade.

Oh yeah, and Sky's a Greater-Than, too. I was blown away with the sight. Ready to Go Deeper? Digital viewing only. Each celestial sight is listed with a brief story of the object's history, a description, instructions for locating it, and a measure of how difficult it is to see.

The easiest pattern of stars to identify is Orion. Include a transparency and seeing scale, percentage of cloud cover, the presence of any moon light, any mist, fog, murk, snow, high level cloud and so forth. This is also a book about the night sky. Highly Recommended.

The book starts with the brightest and most obvious sights, including the sun, with the bulk of the rest of the book dedicated to the stars and constellations visible in the northern hemisphere every season. Reading through my early penciled and penned words opened a gateway of astronomical and meteorological observations, delights which not only include my own catalogue of celestial objects, but which documented my own thoughts and feelings through time.
