They would set out priorities for investment, allocation of resources and targets to be achieved. Making payments depend on certain conditions. The Parliament believes that the current framework of EU cohesion policy should be preserved, based on the three existing objectives: 'convergence', 'regional competitiveness and employment', and 'territorial cooperation'. On the premise that transparency is a fundamental virtue in measurement, the authors chart a new path in laying out their theoretical, conceptual, and scoring decisions before the reader. Regional policy spending is channelled through three funds — often called 'Structural Funds'. Given the purpose and audience of the conference, the abstracts should be accessible to a wider audience and draw out policy implications or lessons insofar as possible.

Its opinions have always emphasised the policy's active role in strengthening cohesion among the different regions of the EU. There is also a keen interest in reinforcing territorial cooperation which reaches beyond administrative borders and addresses the real needs at local level such as in macro-regional and functional urban areas. Strengthening partnerships. Creating a 'performance reserve' to reward the best performers. With investments that range from the Sofia metro to urban renewal and integration projects in Molenbeek, no other EU policy benefits every region.

Regional and cohesion policy book

This is the first of four volumes theorizing the structure of governance above and below the central state. The Conference will bring together a limited number of participants from academia, the European Institutions and Member State authorities to debate where Cohesion Policy is going, the evidence for its performance to date, and how its contribution to sustainable growth and jobs can be maximised.

It sees the convergence objective as a "symbol of European solidarity" that must be protected from any cuts to the EU budget.

Regional policy of the European Union

Against this background this book aims to provide an understanding of the underlying processes of polarisation and related regional and local policies. It also wishes to encourage the spread of local development approaches based on partnerships among the various relevant actors. It cannot replace cohesion policy.

The book makes extensive and insightful use of a large number of case studies and should be a must for all those interested in knowing the extent to which the EU cohesion policy delivers. Theoretical and empirically grounded contributions show that European policies are indeed reproducing socio-spatial inequalities instead of challenging them.

The organisers particularly welcome submission from Croatian researchers and policy practitioners. Should it promote market liberalism or regulated capitalism? If the plan is to relaunch our Union to be closer to its citizens, one of the unique tools we can rely on is the EU cohesion policy.

It would like clear and measurable targets and indicators to be agreed in advance, which can be used to assess the outcomes of programmes in the various member states.

The authors examine four influences — functional pressures, democratization, European integration, and identity — to explain regionalization over the past half-century.

The book also provides summaries of regional governance in 81 countries for scholars and students alike. Conditionality There seems to be broad support for the idea that member states should be encouraged to implement reforms Regional and cohesion policy book are considered necessary for achieving the targets they have set themselves.

Against this background this book aims to provide an understanding of the underlying processes of polarisation and related regional and local policies.

Only one author may present at the conference. We model the composition of IO bodies, their roles in decision making, the bindingness of IO decisions, and the mechanisms through which they seek to settle disputes. It deals with both the big-picture challenges and opportunities faced by EU cohesion policy alongside the granular and specific issues faced daily.

The rationale for the book is to present the findings of the research in a concise and digestible manner that will be of value to policy-makers across the EU and to academics interested in the past effectiveness and future direction of the policy.

Co-authored by an international team of researchers, this book draws on original data from the largest attitudinal survey ever conducted by independent researchers inside the Commission, as well as interviews with senior officials.

The final prices may differ from the prices shown due to specifics of VAT rules About this book Despite the emphasis of the European Regional Policy on territorial cohesion, regional disparities have been increasing within Europe in the past years.

As such, it is a valuable source for early career students and researchers as well as professionals in the field of regional and economic development, policy consultants, and policy makers.

Survival: Global Politics and Strategy This is an excellent book by some of the best scholars in the field. Stronger monitoring and evaluation.

In particular, the Commission intends to pay more attention to urban areas, and to increase the involvement of local and regional authorities in operational programmes.

These regions have a combined population of some million people, which represents just over one third of the total population of the EU. The Commission proposes to agree a series of specific conditions with each member state.

It is also a matter of sharpening our objectives. The measure reveals wide variation both cross-sectionally and over time. In the event that the overall budget for cohesion policy is significantly reduced for the next period, some member states might ask whether it makes sense to continue making EU funds available to all of the Union's regions, or whether it might be necessary to exclude the wealthiest regions from the scope of the bloc's structural funds, in order to maintain payments to the poorest regions.

The purpose of this book is to explain this variation, both across IOs and within IOs over time. It is sometimes portrayed as technocratic, monolithic, and unaccountable, and sometimes as fragmented and weakly led.Against this background, the Third Joint EU Cohesion Policy Conference – organised by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy and RSA Europe together with the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the European Union – aims to take stock of the challenges and opportunities for Cohesion Policy.
