On the social level, it would lead to what we have elsewhere called takdis heaping-up. There was to be no meeting point between the ulema and him, simply because both where viewing the Muslim condition in India from different lenses. The ideal Islamic state is the perfect balance between totalitarianism and anarchy. The mutiny — remembered as a War of Liberation in present-day India and Pakistan — involved an uprising within sections of Hindus and Muslims in the British Army; but most of its civilian leaders were Muslims from the local Muslim community, and remnants of the old Muslim elite. They assessed their situation as an abomination caused by the lack of weapons, aeroplanes and banks. In underdeveloped countries, which were still within the sphere of influence of the superpowers, arms and oil revenues were no longer sufficient to support that influence. Ultimately, change the reality of Muslim societies towards achieving sovereignty and independence, civilizational leadership, and restoring its vibrant role in the international community. Unlike the orthodox ulema, Afghani did not see any good in turning inwards and radically rejecting the modernity associated with British rule.
